Nasarawa go down fighting in Jos


Nasarawa United was unable to live up to pre-match billings as Plateau United ran victorious in Jos.

The match day 21 fixture came alive as early as the 8th minutes when the centre referee, Isaac Ogaba pointed to the spot when Ibrahim Sanusi clattered into Reuben Bala in the area.


Former player Bature Yaro stood up to give his side an early lead as the solid miners poured men forward but were unable to get the needed equalizer as the first half ended with Plateau United slightly in front with Seun Sogbeso injury the major highlight of the first half after the goal.

On resumption of the second stanza, Nasarawa United managed to string some beautiful passes together with Nwani Ikechuchwu the main threat to the Plateau United defence.



Nasarawa United's effort yielded fruit when Olukokun Najeem rose highest to nod home Samuel Oyedeji's well-placed free kick.


The goal by Nasarawa United brought out the best in Plateau United after Coach Kennedy Boboye brought on Jesse Akila and Benjamin Turba, a move which brought stability in the Plateau United side and not long after Reuben Bala volleyed in a stunner when he collected a poor clearance from Abdulbasit Shittu to seal the game and send the home side to rapture.


Coach Kabir Dogo reacting after the game attributed his sides lose to two key moments in the game.


"The withdrawal of one of our key players (Seun Sogbeso) and the red card to Douglas Achiv was the moment that decided the game as we struggled all through the game".

He continued by stressing that his side gave a good fight despite losing to the league champions.

"The loss has left a sour taste but I give kudos to my players for giving a good fight despite going a man down in the early part of the second half".

" Plateau United is a continental side even though I expected more from the side but Boboye has done well with this crop players, he concluded".




Nasarawa United will return home as they host Kano Pillars in MD 22 while Plateau United will keep a date with Rivers United at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt.
